🤖 Wearable Robot: Hyundai E&C Deploys X-ble Shoulder for the First Time

Hyundai E&C has deployed the X-ble Shoulder, developed by Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Robotics LAB, for interior carpentry work at The H Claest in Seoul,  an industry first for construction.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The wearable robot supports workers performing repetitive overhead ceiling work, where prolonged arm elevation can lead to shoulder and arm fatigue. Its non-powered muscle-assist technology reduces physical strain without batteries or charging, while a 0–180° shoulder range of motion allows workers to move naturally on-site.

Impact on workers

The device can reduce the load on shoulder joints and lower anterior and lateral deltoid muscle activity by up to 60% and 30%, respectively, helping workers maintain a more stable posture, reduce fatigue and improve concentration and work efficiency.

 

Hyundai E&C plans to explore applications in other overhead-intensive activities, including equipment installation, ceiling painting and wallpapering. More broadly, the company intends to identify site-tailored AI and robotics technologies to foster a people-centered smart construction environment.
