πŸŽ₯ Media: China Mobile Migu turns the FIFA World Cup into an AI-powered viewing platform

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway, China Mobile's streaming platform Migu is positioning the tournament as the country's first "AI World Cup". Rather than competing solely on broadcast rights, the operator is introducing a new generation of AI-powered viewing services designed to personalise match coverage, improve fan engagement and extend audience interaction beyond the live event.

Migu, which secured distribution rights alongside China Media Group (CMG), is broadcasting all 104 World Cup matches in mainland China. While every match is available free in Full HD, premium subscribers gain access to 4K and 8K streams, Dolby Vision, replay archives and reduced advertising. However, the platform's main differentiator lies in its newly launched AI Zone, which embeds artificial intelligence directly into the viewing experience.

China Mobile Migu's AI Zone integrates AI commentary, tactical analysis and interactive viewing features into its FIFA World Cup streaming platform.

The AI Zone introduces nine AI-powered functions, including automatic commentary, tactical visualisation, ball tracking, live statistics interpretation, win probability predictions and multiple audio options. Interactive AI assistants allow viewers to ask contextual questions during matches, while real-time data visualisation helps explain team formations, player movements and tactical decisions. The objective is not only to enhance the experience for football enthusiasts but also to make matches more accessible to casual viewers unfamiliar with the sport.

Migu is also extending engagement beyond live broadcasts. The platform combines AI-generated content with prediction games, themed entertainment programmes, short-form videos, music, offline fan events and interactive experiences, transforming the World Cup into a continuous content ecosystem rather than a series of isolated live matches. This reflects a broader shift among Chinese media platforms towards increasing user retention before, during and after major sporting events.

The AI strategy also benefits from collaboration with other Chinese technology companies. As FIFA's official technology partner, Lenovo has deployed AI-powered services ranging from intelligent match assistants and digital avatars to enhanced referee visualisation systems and AI prediction tools. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how Chinese technology firms are increasingly contributing not only to content distribution but also to the technological infrastructure supporting major international sporting events.
